    Pie Cookbooks and Recipes


    Pumpkin pie Pies are baked dishes in which a pastry shell either covers a filling ("top-crust"), contains the filling but is open on top ("filled") or completely encloses the filling ("two-crust"). Pies have been around for many hundreds of years, dating back to at least the 12th century, and can contain savory or sweet fillings.

    Siome popular pie recipes and dishes include:
    • Appeltaart - This is a Dutch recipe for apple pie. Appeltaart usually has a lattice-style topping and icing, and as well as apple will typically contain raisins and be flavored with cinnamon and lemon.

    • Boeregs - Boeregs are a popular Armenian dish. They are savory pies made from phyllo pastry stuffed with ground beef, cheese, or spinach.

    • Bott boi - This an Amish recipe. It is pie containing a stew made from meat, egg noodles, potatoes, and other vegetables.

    • Cornish pasty - This is British dish, originally from Cornwall in the Southwest of England. It is a pie with a distinctive shape containin beef, onions and potato.

    • Empadas - This Brazilian dish are pies which are often eaten as fast food. The pies may contain various fillings such as beef, cheeese, chicken, palmito (heart of palm) or shrimp, and in each case, pieces of olive are usually mixed into the filling.

    • Empanadas - Empanadas are baked or fried pastries usually containing various savory fillings, which are originally from Argentine cuisine. There are many different varieties and fillings, including chicken, beef, boiled-egg, cheese, ham and cheese, fish, spinach, or humita (sweetcorn with white sauce). There are also dessert varieties containing fruit fillings.

      Empanadas

    • Pastilla - This Moroccan dish is a sweet and sour pie containing squab (domestic pigeon), shredded chicken, or fish.

    • Pie floater - This is an Australian dish. A meat pie which is covered with tomato sauce, turned upside down, and then served in a thick green pea soup.

    • Pirukas - This is a popular Estonian recipe. Pirukas are small pies cabbage, carrots, or meat, which are served cold.

    • Pork pie - This is a popular British dish, often eaten as a snack food. It is a pie made from a pastry crust containing pork and jellied pork. Pork pies are eaten cold, and available ready made from supermarkets and other stores.

    • Pumpkin pie - This is an American recipe fors a dessert pie containing a pumpkin-based custard flavored using spices such as cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Pumpkin pie is most often eaten at Halloween. Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and is traditionally served accompanied with whipped cream.

    • Vlaai - This popular Dutch recipe is a large round fruit pie filled with fruit marmalade.
